OriginsMs. Te-Ping Lee was born to an underprivileged farmer’s family in Jia-Yi. At age nine, she took her father’s place working in the fields while taking care of her three younger brothers and four younger sisters in her mother’s stead. Though she was eager to learn, she never complained about the fact that she never received an education. After getting married, she helped her husband in his career, raised and educated her children, treated superiors with respect, treated friends politely, and treated the youth with kindness; all qualities for which she was praised for by those around her. Her kindness was not exclusive to her own children, but shared with all children and adolescents. She often reminded her own children to help other children and adolescents. “They can serve society in the long run” she said. Lady Lee, when diagnosed with Alzheimer in her late years, made a will that would leave her lifelong savings to be used to help adolescents. Her second son Meng-Chi, the founding chairman of “The Institute of Medicine and Health Care for Adolescents in Taiwan”, Consultant on youth and adolescent affairs for The Bureau of Health, and the Consultant on the compilation of the national issue: “Manual on Adolescents Issues”, had dedicated years to the research of adolescent health care. He founded “Lee Foundation on Adolescent Medicine and Health” in his mother’s name.
